Oh these times are hard...

Image
It has been a little over a year since I’ve moved away from home. That means it has been over a year that I’ve been (mainly) supporting myself financially, and let me tell you something kids…it’s HARD! For all the big kids out there who are going through the same thing, hang in there. I know what it’s like to go paycheck to paycheck and not saving anything. I know what it feels like to think about what the cheapest thing you can eat is. I know what it’s like to lower you pride and ask for help, then feel like a fool for not budgeting properly in the first place. Look, I’m not saying I’ve got it really bad. I have food, shelter, utilities, etc.   Everything is relative my friends. When you’re down to your last few dollars and you have stretch it until the next paycheck, it’s almost impossible not to breakdown. I’ve done that. I’ve broken down. I’ve hated myself for being stupid about money. It’s something I’m constantly working on. But you know what? You really have...

The Fray

Some people have their ultimate favorite band and some have multiple. My ultimate favorite band would be, The Fray. Ever since I was ten years old, I fell in love with them. I remember when I was walking in the living room and my sister was watching the Top 20 music videos on VH1; The Fray's “Over My Head” music video came on and I just stopped in the middle of the living room, literally stopped and the song was (and still is) very capturing. I don't know if my sister remembers this, but I DO. When I saw and listened to the song, “Over My Head” that day, I always searched other songs by The Fray. The Fray is part of my life. I know they don't know me, but when I was younger, I thought music was just words with a catchy beat. The music I listened to before I was 10, I didn't understand the meaning to what the song meant. The Fray gave me a different perspective on music. I listen to the lyrics carefully and know what the song actually means now. THE FRAY CHANGED MY ...

The Chase for the Start

My sister’s post got me thinking, “what the heck was I doing when I was 18?” Well, I was a senior in high school getting ready to go to college. Being a teenager, of course there was a wide range of emotions going on. One that really stood out was my strong desire to move away from my hometown and go to college. Don’t get me wrong, I love my school, friends, family, etc. I had no tragic story worthy of a Lifetime movie. I’ve always been about moving forward, living in new places, and experiencing new things. Never have I been satisfied of where I was. I can understand why some people might see this as pitiful, but it was/is this desire that got me to where I am now. Who knows? One day I might want to stay in one place and settle down, but that day isn’t anytime soon. I get bored too fast. Anyways, eighteen year-old Muriel was excited. No matter how good things were, I was always looking for my next adventure. I guess you can say that the theme song to my transition was...

Eighteen

Image
Hey, sorry we haven't posted in a long time, because we had technical problems, but it's all good now. My name is Bernice. I just turned eighteen this year and my life has been a roller coaster ride. Still learning to be independent. I have a long way to go to be an independent and strong woman; I know I can do it. Right now, I'm living my youth and it's been awesome and crappy, but c'mon, that's life. This is why I picked this song first for this music blog. For all the girls who are eighteen or who was eighteen, this song is for you. "18" by Steve Moakler. :)

What Is This?

There's something about starting a new project. It's exciting! Along with this excitement, you're kind of hesitant to start it because you just want to get it right. That's the reason why I've prolonged writing this. Well, that and good ol' procrastination. This project/blog is meant to be something that my sister and I can do together. Since moving away from our beautiful home called California, we don't really see much of each other. I wanted to start something that we can build together. Besides Facebook, Twitter, and the occasional phone call, what really connects us is music. We don't have a lot in common, but we love music. That's such a vague statement huh? Everybody can say they love music; but just because it's vague and overused doesn't mean it's not true. We love it so much that when we like a song or a certain band, we feel compelled to share it with our friends. We share it in hopes that they'll like it and/or feel s...
