Oh these times are hard...
It has been a little over a year since I’ve moved away from
home. That means it has been over a year that I’ve been (mainly) supporting
myself financially, and let me tell you something kids…it’s HARD!
For all the big kids out there who are going through the
same thing, hang in there. I know what it’s like to go paycheck to paycheck
and not saving anything. I know what it feels like to think about what the
cheapest thing you can eat is. I know what it’s like to lower you pride and ask
for help, then feel like a fool for not budgeting properly in the first place.
Look, I’m not saying I’ve got it really bad. I have food,
shelter, utilities, etc. Everything is
relative my friends. When you’re down to your last few dollars and you have
stretch it until the next paycheck, it’s almost impossible not to breakdown.
I’ve done that. I’ve broken down. I’ve hated myself for
being stupid about money. It’s something I’m constantly working on.
But you know what? You really have to look at your
blessings. Not to be all goody-goody (though you can do that too), but to stay
sane.
I have a fantastic support system and one very special person
in my life always reminds me about the good things when I’m down about money. He
reminds me that I’m not alone on this mission to be a “grownup”.
He reminded me of this song, "For the First Time" by the Script.
Look, we really have to make the best
of things. Problems will always be there, but you have to hang in there. You’re
not alone; we’re all trying to figure out. Money is ridiculously complicated and
valuable, but don’t let it rule your life. Easier said than done, but we have
to work towards that ok? Hang in there.
“Oh these times are hard and they're making us crazy; don’t
give up on me baby”
*work hard and balance
