The Chase for the Start
My sister’s post got me thinking, “what the heck was I doing
when I was 18?”
Well, I was a senior in high school getting ready to go to
college. Being a teenager, of course there was a wide range of emotions going
on. One that really stood out was my strong desire to move away from my
hometown and go to college. Don’t get me wrong, I love my school, friends,
family, etc. I had no tragic story worthy of a Lifetime movie.
I’ve always been about moving forward, living in new places,
and experiencing new things. Never have I been satisfied of where I was. I can
understand why some people might see this as pitiful, but it was/is this desire
that got me to where I am now. Who knows? One day I might want to stay in one
place and settle down, but that day isn’t anytime soon. I get bored too fast.
Anyways, eighteen year-old Muriel was excited. No matter how
good things were, I was always looking for my next adventure.
I guess you can say that the theme song to my transition was
Matt Nathanson’s “Heartbreak World”. I just wanted to leave everything behind
and start with a clean slate. Starting fresh is probably one of the best things anybody can
ever experience. I didn't know what was going to happen but that uncertainty was scary and exciting at the same time. I was drawn to it.
Keep in mind that I was much more dramatic when I was
younger than I am now. Haha.
Cheers to everyone out there getting ready to make a
transition in their journey called life. Cheers to a fresh new start.
